I'm Alive!

After 20 hours of meetin and greetin, metal detectors, 4 movies on butt numbing seats, and questionable plane food, my passport has finally been stamped!!! (By an extremely charming Ugandan customs official, I must say :P) I've been in Uganda a couple of days now, and it's crazy/scary/absolutely wonderful! Here are eight of the many fun things I've discovered so far!

The toilet IS a hole in the ground. (OK, just kidding. But there is a list of rules for bathroom use. Consequence of breaking those rules: pit latrine. Also! You have to bring your own toilet paper to the bathroom. Awkward.)

There is a reason why they told us to pack lightly.

Hiking up a Ugandan mountain in pouring rain is a fun challenge.

A positive to the threat of malaria: mosquito nets! It's like when you're a kid and you're making a tent out of blankets and chairs in the living room.

Fresh fruit and break for breakfast: marvelous! Unknown foods for lunch and dinner: edible.

Waking at seven in the morning (after 5 hours of sleep in the past 48 hours!) isn't so bad when monkeys are your wake up call!

Cold showers.

32 Americans traveling in a herd around East Africa is not very inconspicuous. But they love us here, and I'm pretty fond of it myself. :)

The honeymoon stage of culture shock has set in. We'll see how long this lasts. Thanks for checking in! :)
